Mother yourself
To all the amazing mothers out there, Happy Mother’s Day!
As you cherish special day, remember what it feels like to be appreciated for all that you are and all that you do.
It is my wish for you to capture this essence and carry it into your life beyond today by remembering to mother yourself.
As women, we often associate guilt with taking care of ourselves or putting ourselves first. Next time you feel guilty about practicing self-care, remind yourself that your body and spirit are also your ‘children’ who need and deserve your care, love and nurturing.
And remember, mothering yourself, isn’t just about taking time out for facials and pedicures. It also means to:
- honor your needs and desires for ‘me time’
- accept or ask for help
- give yourself time to nourish yourself with food that will love you back with energy and vitality
- practice saying no (sometimes) so that you can say yes to yourself
- forgive yourself
- move and exercise your body in a way that you enjoy
- accept and embrace imperfection
- give yourself the permission to rest even though the to-do list isn’t complete
- quiet the inner critic who says you aren’t doing enough
- give yourself the permission to just ‘be’ and recognize it is sometimes the most productive thing you can do for yourself and your children.
Here’s to helping all mothers ‘mother themselves’, so that they can show up for their loved ones as the best version of themselves. Not just today, but also tomorrow, next week and beyond…
