Rethink Self-Care & Build Healthy Habits
“No! I can’t do it, mom!”. This is what I heard over and over from my boys when we got the announcement that they would be online for school through January, 2021. We had just returned from an amazing month-long trip to my native country of Iceland. My first reaction when I heard the news was to ‘escape’ back to Iceland where COVID cases are very low and schools are scheduled to be in person this Autumn.
However, after weighing all the pros and cons of an Iceland school option, we decided to stay put in the US. In some ways, it was a case of ‘the enemy you know is better than the friend you don’t know’. We’ll lean into the discomfort, focus on healthier ‘escapes’ and count our blessings if online school is the extent of our challenges this Autumn.
These are tough times for everyone. Knowing that uncertainty and unrest will remain a constant factor helps me double down on things that are within my control. From a wellness perspective, that means helping my family and clients amp up on solid nutrition and self-care (movement, stress management and sleep in particular). These are THE foundational pieces for stronger emotional, mental and physical health – and resilience!
I know that for so many, this aspect has not been easy. I get it. Uncertainty, being stuck at home and loneliness has led many to find refuge in over indulging in comfort food and alcohol. Sadly, this has resulted in the average American gaining 16 lbs since COVID started! This is on top of the epidemic of metabolic syndrome that is already leaving us more vulnerable to complications with COIVD-19.
Regardless of how you weathered the last five months, a new school year is always a time for new beginnings. Let’s pause, reflect, and set an intention and a plan to do (even) better this Autumn. It’s time for a REDO! Life in COVID times, 2.0 – the healthy way!
Let’s take real measures in our fight against this virus and future viruses. COVID-19 is not the last virus to come around and we need to increase our resilience on an ongoing basis. To make our body uninhabitable for this virus or for a future pathogen, we must create healthier habits. The results will not only help you now, but also help you set the stage for a better quality of life going forward. It’s a win, win!
I invite you to join me for a 21-Day RESET, “Building Resilience Through Healthy Habits” whereby we’ll gradually shed the processed and inflammatory foods while shifting over to wholesome and immune-supportive food. We will also place a strong focus on self-care routines (exercise, sleep, and stress management in particular).
Making changes can be hard. Doing it with the support of others makes it both easier and more fun! Let’s do this!
Yours in health,
Linda
