You Don’t Need To Feel Deprived Eating Gluten Free

Many people are avoiding gluten because of associated health conditions while others are avoiding bread all together due to the low carb trend. (To better understand gluten free, see my recent blog post here). The challenge I’ve noticed as a health coach for nearly a decade is that when we take something out of our diet, we sometimes experience a sense of deprivation. For some, this can lead to binging on foods that you’ve forbidden or deemed “bad”. Eliminate those feelings that you are missing out on something by making sure you add new options, thereby replacing what you’ve pushed off your plate with something new on your plate.

Stop Feeling Deprived Eating Gluten Free

If you think a little outside the bread box (ha!), you can try using Nori paper (see picture right), lettuce or collard leaves, or rice paper instead of your sandwich bread or wrap. Another new favorite of mine are coconut or veggie puree wraps. I just ordered these.

Simply slice sweet potatoes in thin slices, toss them with some olive oil and sea salt in a plastic bag, lay them out on a cookie sheet on parchment paper and bake on 375 for 40-45 minutes. Just watch them at the end so they don’t burn.
