FREE Download: My Favorite Food Swaps & Hacks

When was the last time you spent 48 hours completely alone? I asked myself that very question, and when I couldn’t remember when it was, I booked myself the most rejuvenating mini-retreat, a Mother’s Day present to myself!

We’re not talking about a resort, a spa or a fancy hotel. We’re talking about a nature escape to a tiny Scandinavian-looking cabin (on wheels!) tucked away in the woods near the beautiful Shenandoah mountains in Virginia.

My Getaway cabin, named Thomas, had everything I needed for a solo retreat. The super-comfy bed next to a large picture window facing tall beautiful trees was my favorite. It also included a tiny bathroom with a shower, a miniature kitchenette with a cute little retro red fridge, basic cooking essentials, a sink with filtered water, an emergency phone (a secure line to the camp concierge). The outside provided a camping-like experience with a picnic table, fire ring, and lawn chairs.

After a long pandemic year, the simplicity of this cabin, the peace and quiet of nature and plenty of time to sleep, reflect, journal, read, and gaze at the stars and the fire (ok, I need to work on that), AND no one asking me to do anything for them, you can bet this mama came home with her self-care tank replenished and ready to give and provide. Ah, self-care at its best!

The point is, it’s usually the simple things that are the most powerful. I aim to bring this concept into my functional medicine health coaching practice as well. While symptom resolution often involves various functional testing and understanding of complex interconnectedness in the body, no one gets better without nailing the simplest yet most powerful foundations. Yes, self-care is one foundational piece, but everyone must start with the foundation of eating real food!

Eating healthy real food doesn’t mean you have to leave out all your favorite foods and flavors. It’s about bridging the gap and upgrading. I’ve pulled together a simple collection of some of my favorite food swaps and hacks in a downloadable resource. Enjoy it here. Pick a few things to implement and see it helping you along the journey to better health. And then take a few more. It’s that simple.

Be well!
