Icelandic Nature Is The Adventurer’s Playground

Hey there, I know it’s been a while since I’ve appeared on my blog. Since you last heard from me I’ve been sharpening the saw. Thankfully I didn’t cut myself, but I did study my butt off!

I earned a National Board Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching which gave me a whole new appreciation for the art and psychology of coaching even though I’ve been coaching for 17 years. I also completed my Functional Medicine Health Coaching certification which I started in 2017.  This training provided me with invaluable clinical tools to help my clients thrive. In understanding the dynamics that are at play in the various dis-ease processes and how nutrition and lifestyle choices can halt and reverse many of those dynamics my clients are empowered to own their health and make the right choices.

After all the studying it was time to travel and adventure before sending my older son off to college (he’s now off to a great start down in south Florida and enjoying the independence).

One of the trips I took was back ‘home’ to Iceland, which is always deeply nourishing for me. Icelandic nature is the adventurer’s playground. On my first day there, I was feeling jet-lagged and ready to go to bed at 8 pm. Then my sister insisted we take advantage of this beautiful summer night. She had already whipped out two electric mountain bikes from her garage so I thought to myself; ‘well riding an electric bike will take no effort’. It wasn’t long before we were in the rocky lava fields above my hometown when I found myself humbled by this mighty electric mountain bike. It didn’t matter whether I was pedaling or not, bouncing around and barely holding on, this bike was on auto-pilot! It just kept cruising on, no matter the bumps and rocks on the ground. It took me a bit to orient myself to this challenge. I realized that if I wasn’t going to get thrown off at every turn and obstacle on this off-path experience, I’d really have to focus, anticipate the obstacles ahead and adjust my speed and balance accordingly. After a few minor falls, I got the hang of it, and we had so much fun! I felt like a kid again playing outside late into the summer nights.

When I finally crawled into bed that night, I thought about how this experience was much like what happens in life in regards to how we take care of our health. Without a focus and a plan around healthy choices, we easily cruise through our days and weeks on auto-pilot and fall off our health plan at every turn and obstacle. As I tell my clients, it’s perfectly normal to fall off from time to time. Beating ourselves up does nothing. Instead, recognize that each fall also carries a lesson. Reflect on what led to the fall and what you might do differently next time to dampen the fall or prevent it. Then dust yourself off, hop back on and keep going. It’s called a RESET.

With that said, if you took a fall off the proverbial health and wellness bike this summer or you’re ready to shift up to the next gear, I invite you to join me for a 21-Day Reset. This three-part online program is your chance to reduce pain, crush cravings and increase energy while enjoying delicious anti-inflammatory food and guilt-free self-care. This journey is so much more than a ‘plan’ to follow. The community aspect brings opportunities to learn not just from me, but from other participants who often are dealing with similar challenges as you. And in and seeing how they navigate might inspire and empower you to find the balance and encouragement you’ve been looking for. In addition, the wonderful online camaraderie and accountability are why so many people keep coming back to my programs.

I hope you join me! To learn more and sign up, hop on over to the 21-Day Reset page.

Here’s to focus, balance, and intention!

Yours in health,

Linda
